Yet another idea i forgot to post!

So I have another idea that came about with the help of miss Robin! (Thank you Robin)
Well I was thinking about making bumper sticker statements! Another idea that I have played around with is IGNORANCE. I have done another piece about it in the past and decided to think about it again!

so...
Ignorance--Bumper sticker statement examples inspired by real life questions...(that's what makes it worse!!!)
1) " Do you have indoor plumbing (in germany)" (colours: Red and brown)
2) "Do you drive cars (in germany)" (colours: navy and gray)
3) "Do you have coloured TV?" (colours: black and white)
4) "So, are you a Nazi?" (colours black, red, and yellow)
5) " You're a communist right?" (colours: Red and white)
6) "Have you been to Oktober Fest?" (colours: Blue and white) (not sure about this one)
7) " Germany has a dictator right?" (colours: Red and black) (not sure about colours for this one)

The idea Robin had was to make these "bumper stickers" into magnets and photograph them on car bumpers...I like that idea!

Artists working with text, CY TWOMBLY (sorry i might ramble a little)

This summer in Germany i went to the new art museum in Munich (The Brandhorst collection) (it is a fantastic museum by the way i spent many many many hours there and could have been there longer) and became strangely obsessed with Cy Twombly. I had seen his work before in the Menil Collection in Houston and liked it but was never as drawn to it as I was in Munich. Well I have now seen the two largest collections of Twombly and love it!!!! Anyway....back to the whole text thing... Twombly uses a calligraphic or graffiti style in his art. It seems like just random marks on a canvas or paper (which is why i was at first not as interested) but when looking closer and knowing the background of each piece he makes the weight of the lines and the randomness mean something. He somehow makes his marks more or less tense and frantic and sometimes even calm. Most of his works allude to some classical subject or a time in history. My favourite (once again nothing to do with text...oh well) is in the Brandhosrt collection, it is about a sea battle, when you really look at it you can really see it! his gestural makes (kinda like swirls) remind of a stream of consciousness.... just on going thought. He is really an amazing artist.....! For images from the entire Brandhorst collection aand of course Twombly images to check out....

Text, text, text

Just some ideas, (still in written format....)
1) Culture (just cause I have to entertain this idea like always =))--
-Me, you, us, them
-Identity, what makes someone them? What makes them different then us? What makes you different then me?
-Maybe just focus on us and them?
-us-many similar people
-them-many different people
HEAD-SHOTS FOR TEXT?

2) Talk is trash--I realize this might be a little overused but I was inspired by the UD field hockey team who seem to be amazing at talking about them but never doing anything about it....maybe i don't know......
-text forms trash can!

3) Keine Panik!--This means don't panic in German. This came from the idea that we seem to be a culture (with this i mean the entire western world not just the US like i was talking about in the last project) that is always in panic when something happens. Maybe that is the way we have created the culture and maybe that isn't the right approach....isn't that what the captain of a sinking ship always says...."EVERYBODY DON'T PANIC!!!!" Maybe he is right ya know?

These ideas are obviously all very rudimentary and I don't really know if I'm happy with any of them so I have a lot of thinking left to do.

Have you seen this person?

My final piece for Project 1 turned out to be a comment on the objects made in the sculpture. I was interested in the fact that most of the choices made are very culture typical. It makes me wonder what the sculpture would look like if it was made by a completely different culture. Maybe not necessarily by a culture outside of the US (even though that of course would be interesting to see) but what about a different generation. Is that a different culture? Or do they just see it differently. I think it is interesting that the objects/foods that were chosen could potentially define someone in that culture, it sounds bland but the typical american hot dog, cookie, corn, apple, car (and even a donut which was not in my final piece) are things that to me come to mind when thinking of US culture. I hope this makes some kind of sense.

Create culture, don't be created by it!

How do we make a digital image!?
-Take things from the world and make them digital!
Opportunities for Input
-Make an image by thinking outside the computer
